Humes

Tom is wearing a perfect example of the 1980's glasses. Notice the large rectangular frames, this was the classic signature style of glasses which began to be called "Humes". Humes became the fad of the summer of '86 as everyone from politicians to musicians started wearing them. Humes also became extremely popular with the skateboarding crowd of the late 80's who would show up in vans sneakers with walkman's blasting punk music. Humes became a symbol of the skateboarding scene and you really weren't legit unless you had a pair. Tom became sort of a cult figure in this scene and could often be found skating with his humes on much to the delight of his many fans.
